With a background in the visual arts, I take a huge delight in the mysteries of colour. How white light refracts into seven glorious hues within the visual spectrum, bounded on either side by infra-red and ultra-violet is a wonder and an endless fascination. So I invited a few like-minded poets who I knew would share my passion to join me and contribute to this collection. All I asked of them was that they use the colours of the rainbow (as identified by Sir Isaac Newton) to act as a catalyst for their work and to take that forward in whatever way they wished and they have certainly done that. Subjects range from Bodmin Moor to debates about Newton’s classification system to the artist, Yves Klein’s patent for international blue to political/ecological concerns and more. I have been aware of some of these poets for a lot longer than others – often through a myriad of family links but I feel a very close connection to all of them and I must thank them for taking the time to support me in this project. Another ‘thank you’ also goes to my fellow writer/poets who have kindly provided introductory essays to the contributing poets.
