The Boulevard – Francesca Albini

Francesca Albini returns with another beautiful and evocative chapbook. The journey that she leads us on defies the normal rules of time and space. The simplicity of her writing catches the unsuspecting reader in shimmering pools of sentiment. Albini’s images dance on the page, they play Venice’s heat induced mirages against its succulent dark shadows.

Francesca Albini divides her life between literary and artistic endeavours. She is a PhD in Classics, and has worked in publishing for her entire adult life, as a translator, author and editor. She is a self taught artist and photographer. Her work is inspired by folk art, but also by design. Albini is a collector of memories, and uses any medium that allows her to remember and share, express feelings and narrate stories. From line drawings to plastic cameras, from collage to upcycled jewellery and dolls. “My work is playful and dreamy, child-like but also philosophical. I fall in and out of love with many styles and tools, but I’m always me, whatever I do.”

Almost a Dream – Astra Papachristodoulou

Almost a Dream is a tentative oscillation across a changing landscape. Inspired by and physically enveloped in eroded fragments of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Astra Papachristodoulou’s sequence glides through eight distinct compositions, each bearing a singular climate, texture, and gestural quality.”
Iris Colomb

Astra Papachristodoulou is a poet and artist. She is a recent graduate from the MA Creative Writing (Poetic Practice) at Royal Holloway with focus in experimental writing and the neo-futurist tradition across poetry, visual art and performance. She is a co-founder of the artist association group ProArtè, which has curated several art exhibitions across the UK.

Her poetry has appeared in small magazines and anthologies such as The Tangerine, Stride Magazine and Streetcake. Astra has recently won the Pebeo Mixed Media Art Prize, and her paintings have been showcased at contemporary art exhibitions at the A&D Gallery in London, as well as Surrey-based venues such as the Ivy Arts Centre and The Studio.
