Ugly! Lovely! Bonkers! – This map is a collaboration between Swansea-based artists Melanie Ezra and Rosie Scribblah. They have chosen a quirky route through the city centre, pointing out the little idiosyncrasies that catches your attention and illustrating the walk with their own artwork. Swansea is full of culture and history, and this little map opens the lid on this fascinating city. The walk is designed to take around 2 hours but it’s probably best to allow a whole day because you are guaranteed to get distracted!

Melanie Ezra is a UK-based fine artist who works using her own original photographs to create beautiful and intricate collages. She often works in series, providing visual responses to external stimuli such as literature, science, and music. She considers herself a specialist in the deconstruction of time and the extension of the moment.

Rose Davies (Rosie Scribblah) is an artist and printmaker, scribbler and ageing headbanger. She works directly from life, carrying a sketchbook at all times looking for any opportunity to have a scribble. She works from my studio in Wales, UK where she lives with her husband and cats, who often feature in her drawings and blogs.

Phillip Cribb went to school at Gunnersbury in Chiswick and was further educated at the Universities of Cambridge and Birmingham. He is a co-founder and the current president of the Spelthorne Natural History Society which is approaching its 40th anniversary in 2016.

Since 1974 he has worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. He retired from the staff as deputy keeper of Kew’s world-renowned Herbarium in 2006 and is now an honorary research fellow there. He has specialised at Kew in researching the systematics and evolution of orchids, one of the largest families of flowering plants, an occupation that has taken him around the world on many botanical expeditions. He was chair of IUCN’s Orchid Specialist Group and is a trustee of Orchid Conservation International, both organisations concerned with protecting the world’s wild orchids. For many years, he was also a trustee of the Gilbert White and Oates Museum at Selborne. Phillip has lived in the area since 1956 and in Sunbury since 1972 and has taken a long-term interest in the borough’s wildlife.

This Walthamstow based short walk begins at Vestry House Museum goes past St Mary’s Church and The Ancient House and takes in The Nags Head Pub. The map indicates the site of manhole covers on part of the route. Covers in the road are not included and the route assumes walking on the left hand of the road. The Rat’s Republic refers to the underneath of our city. To the sewers and cables, tunnels and Underground train system. Every day millions of people enter this underworld to travel. The world beneath our feet contains water and gas, our electricity and a proliferation of telecommunication cables.

A map and photographic trail by Bill Mudge. This is a 5 page map that folds out into one large A3 size map with route and description. Start your walk at Mitcham Junction Station. Finish at Wandle Park and take the tram back to Mitcham Junction. The route takes 2 hours and is 6 hours long. Add extra time for dawdlers, island exploration and clingwell slice consumption. Bill Mudge's Wandling Map — Bill Mudge’s Wandling Map

Bill Mudge is one of the quieter members of London‘s Jazz circuit but he hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans and critics alike. He released his debut album, Skylight, in 2011 and the same year played alongside Kit Downes, Lewis Wright, Paul Booth, Tom White and Piers Green on Paul Jordanous’ debut ‘And now I know’.

He was raised in the beautiful town of Lymington, near the New Forest in Hampshire, and his compositions reflect this close relationship with nature. He now lives in London but remains true to his roots and has established a plentiful kitchen garden adjacent to his property. He is truly a renaissance man and regularly draw upon his time as an arts student in Bath, UK for his inspiration. Bill Mudge continues to work as a photographer alongside his music career.

Welcome to the On The Map exhibition from CollectConnect artists. Earlier this year publisher we commissioned 12 new maps from a group of exciting contemporary artists. Each map was designed to be printed as an A3 fold out sheet with 4 supporting pages on it’s reverse side.

There is an inherent beauty in maps, like the Dwell book that proceeded this exhibition maps are a 2 dimensional rendering of a 3 dimensional form. They are often interpretations of the real world in a graphic light with motifs and lines that help us find anything from roads to windmills.

Artists are natural observers and organisers who like categorise through visual means. This map exhibition gives us the chance to see the world around us through the eyes of 14 artists from around the UK.

The artists were asked to consider 3 criteria.

Their map should be set in the real world, somewhere in the UK.

That it should include a route which could be walked.

The walking of the map shouldn’t cost more than £10 (train fares, entrance to museums, lunch)

Sampson Low Ltd have printed them all in colour at an A5 (21×14.8cm) size with an A3 fold out map incorporated. They will be selling the maps at an affordable £2 (+ Postage and Packing) so that anyone can try one of these artist’s walks or frame them on their wall.

The latest publication from CollectConnect artists is being released in February 2015 by Sampson Low Ltd. London based artist and art therapist Dean Reddick has brought together artists from around the world to publish a book of 30 practical Nets. Each black and white page is easy to photocopy and ready for all ages to build themselves. The Nets are graded with completion times and building tips. A magical book about 2D plans with the potential to become 3D dwellings that can be adapted and coloured by the reader.

The Cambridge Blue Plaque Walk is a two hour circular walk that visits 21 of Cambridge’s Blue Plaques celebrating famous names like John Maynard Keynes and Sir Jack Hobbs and notable achievements such as the discovery of DNA.

The full colour map highlights the route but allows you to wander off at any point and re-join the trail. There is also a spotter’s guide, to keep children and the eagle-eyed amongst you entertained throughout your journey.

This walk was originally created as part of the Art Language Location festival in 2014 by artist Alban Low. Alongside the 21 established Blue Plaques, Low invited nominations for everyday plaques that celebrated the unsung personalities and events of Cambridge. He printed these as magnetic plaques and placed them throughout the city with help from a keen group of walkers and art enthusiasts. You can see all 50 overleaf and maybe a few still remain on lampposts and railings along the route.

Art Language Location (ALL) is an art festival taking place over two and a half weeks in locations throughout Cambridge, featuring 50 innovative and experimental contemporary artists from across the UK and beyond who use text in their work.

Each artist must find an appropriate venue for their work: the resulting intervention creates a conversation between artist, artwork and location. This extended exhibition aims to punctuate the city with a series of visually exciting and unexpected encounters in which our everyday interactions with text can be explored and challenged.

The CD was recorded on the 11th November 2013 by Nick Pugh at The Art Jazzed Up exhibition, The Shaw Gallery, Croydon.

Initially 8 short pieces of music were released for the artists to listen to. These were by musicians Mike DiRubbo, Bill Mudge, Duncan Eagles, Max Luthert and Peter Ibbetson. The artists then sent their responses to the exhibition committee. 250 artworks were selected, 24 were shortlisted by the musicians themselves and a winner, Chris Holley, was chosen by curator Alan Carlyon Smith. All the artworks were displayed in jewel cases at the Shaw Gallery.

On the 11th November 2013 the exhibition was opened to the public along with a unique performance that combined live art and music. The audience sat facing 3 blank paper canvases while Mike DiRubbo (alto saxophone), Duncan Eagles (tenor/soprano saxophone), Bill Mudge (piano), Max Luthert (Bass) and Dave Storey (drums) were hidden behind the white screens. Alongside the musicians was artist Alban Low, also hidden to the audience. As Low drew in spirit ink on the canvases his lines slowly seeped through to the audience’s side and images started to magically appear.

The exhibition is part of an ongoing project that is exploring the relationship between Art and Music. The Murder Minutes project has screened its films all over the world and collected a few awards along the way. Check out the website here – MURDER MINUTES
